Has anyone tried interfacing any of the diversion sketches with one of the recent low cost inverter driven aircon unit compressors. It strikes me that it shouldn't be difficult to modulate the compressor speed to the amount of spare power if the aircon controller has an external input 4-20mA or voltage driven setting.
