Hello everybody.
I understand that the EmonTx are compatible with the SCT-013-000.
However, I already have 4 other sensors, the ECS1030-L72, that I would like to use with the EmonTx V3.
Are they compatible as well? Do I need any calibration or other settings change?
Thank you
Paolo
Re: Which CT sensor for EmonTx?
The data sheet tells me that the ratio is 30 A : 15 mA, it also states that it can generate 300 mV into a 10 Ω burden with a primary current of 60 A.
That tells me that it is good to a 2 × overload, which is helpful.
The emonTx requires 1.1 V for full scale, so you need a burden of 120 Ω and because you must not exceed the VA rating of the transformer (300 mV × 30 mA = 9 mVA), your maximum current will be 18.33 A.
If that maximum is acceptable, then your c.t. is suitable.
Re: Which CT sensor for EmonTx?
Robert,
thank you for your quick reply
18.33 A is enough for me (it means almost 4kW on the 220V AC, correct?)
When you say "you need a burden of 120 Ω" you don't mean that I actually need an external resistor, correct? It's everything in the assembled emonTx V3, I guess.
I apologize if this is a silly question.
Thanks again
Paolo
Re: Which CT sensor for EmonTx?
You need to change the burden resistor on the emonTx PCB. It is a surface mount 22 Ω, which you must remove and substitute a 120 Ω (there are holes for a through-hole one).
(For anyone with an emonTx V2, the burden resistor is 18 Ω.)
Re: Which CT sensor for EmonTx?
Ok, thank you!
That's a bit more complicated than hoped :-(
