My thesis investigates the benefit of cleaning PV arrays. In order to do this , I need to be able to measure the DC current generated by parallel strings of PV modules.
The only sensible way of doing this seems to be a Hall effect current sensor producing a DC voltage in proportion to the DC current. I would then use an Arduino or Raspberry Pi to log values every 1-5 minutes for 4 months.
I would be very grateful for any advice or ideas.
Thanks,
Richard.

I think that is exactly right. Do bear in mind that many Hall effect sensors require a direct connection, the split-core types that I have seen are significantly more expensive. If you are making a direct connection, then for safety you need to do it in darkness unless there is some means of isolation.
