I came up to the following devices http://www.smappee.com/be_en/ which monitors electricity consumption but goes further by isolating different appliances. There's also this project http://nilmtk.github.io/.
My question is therefore the following : is it yet possible to achieve with the open energy monitor system?

If you search here for "smappee", you'll find a few threads about it. Some users have not had a good experience, with the learning process posing problems.
Emon doesn't do that at present, and I don't know of any plans to add appliance recognition - which is where all the difficulties appear to lie (see dBC's comment).
