I hope you can help - I'm at my witts end and don't know where else to go.
I built a V1.4 of the above and am satisfied that the arduino is working correctly. I made the silly mistake of soldering C13 and C14 in the wrong way around and corrected this to address the error that has been highlighted on the forum. However, no matter what I do, I cannot get the display to fire up. The backlight works and, if I upload a sketch I can see it turn off and come on again as the setup function is called. No way, though, can I get anything from the LCD display. I've taken the precaution of not soldering it to the PCB as yet. Instead, I have inserted it and put a bit of pressure sideways upon it so that the pins mate with the through hole plates (using some 3M tape). I've followed the videos and made sure that there is a good contact before applying power. I've tried power via the USB to UART cable in isolation and with the mini USB as well. Still the same.
Ideally, I would run the special test sketch as this should test everything. For some reason I cannot get this to compile. So, instead, I have tried several of the sketches which come with the GLCD library (in 1.0.1). None of them cause the LCD display to do anything.
I don't really want to solder the display in permanently until I know what is wrong. Obviously, if this is the only other avenue open, I will do it.
I hope you have some ideas of further things for me to try or can offer suggestions as to what could be wrong.
kind regards and thanks
Ian
Re: EmonGLCD - wont work
I just wanted to add that the substitute caps that I put in were new ones rather than the ones that I removed.
I also wonder if this display will work (in principle) if I was to solder in 0.1" pitch header pins and then plug it in rather than soldering it. That way I would still have a fighting chance of getting thinsg working but still being sure of a good contact. Obviously, the bezel wont work any more but my intention was to put the electronics in a different case anyway.
