emonTX polling from emonBase instead of pushing values ?

I'm trying to use the emonTX/emonBase for multiple PV monitoring (say 5 or 6 emonTX to one emonBase)

In the current setup the emonTX's pushes these values every 5-6 seconds tot the emonBase.

This means that at night when theres no output from the PV systems the emonTX 's still pushes values to the emonBase.

With 2 or more emonTX the emonBase would need to keep track about which emonTX sends what so i wondered if it would make more sense if the emonBase polls the emonTX for their values one at a time ?

Has this sort of polling system used by someone before ?

Re: emonTX polling from emonBase instead of pushing values ?

If powered from battery, the EmonTX sleeps most of the time and only wakes up to send data from time to time. Therefore polling won't work in that case. Each EmonTX has its own ID and the emonBase can differentiate by it. I don't see a problem if they send at night?

Here's what Jeelabs say about this:

<quote>

So if you’ve got a bunch of wireless weather sensors, alarm sensors, or remotely controlled switches, chances are that your RF12-based transmissions will frequently fail to reach their intended destination.

So by having say 10 orso emontx 'shouting' out their values it probably wont work at the emonbase end. Thats why i want to have a polling mechanism instead of a pushing one.

With that number of emonTx's on a single system a polling mechanism would make more sense as long as the emonTx are powered from a power supply since they will need to be 'awake' and listening for a poll trigger all the time. An acknowledgment will need to be sent out from the emonBase to let the emonTx know that the reading has been received,

I'm sure there is some information on JeeLabs, I think he might have done this. JeeLabs is an amazing source of good information but finding it can be hard work, try searching the web log!
