Raspberry Pi + Harddrive partial boot

Raspberry Pi + Harddrive + Emoncms, plus a TV connected to the RPI and keyboard.

RPI start the multicolor screen, then about 3-4 pages of white text lines on a black screen, then stops.

The keyboard is ok, but no echo on the screen, only the LF-CR is functional. There is no prompt, and the ethernet connection is not operative. Swapping the USB ports connection do not make any difference. Disconnecting and reconnecting the USB keyboard is detected and displayed on screen, same for HD cable.

The SD card and the HD image has been created without errors and the contents can be browsed when connecte to my PC-USB port. The HD is a working 80GB PATA in an external powered box. The RPI is OK with a 4GB SD with stand alone OS, Apache, MySql, etc..

Any clue to fix it?

I had a quite similar issue. It was link to a non supported legacy USB to PATA controller. You should try with another interface or HDD.

Re: Raspberry Pi + Harddrive partial boot

Which software have you installed, ready made image, apt-get package or did you follow a guide, if so which one?

There will usually be an indication of what is at fault in the "3-4 pages of text"  are there any lines with the words "fail" or "error" ?

What is the last line when the script stops? does it tell you to do something like use control-? to continue/do checks etc?

Do you have another sd card that you can pop in and boot to and then access the hdd to check?
