how to install event module on emoncms on windows?

I want to install the event module on my emoncms server running on windows7. Was not able to find in the forum a quick start guide for "how to". Basically I want to understand how modules can be installed with windows.

If I use the hosted alternative of emoncms.org is it possible to add modules? Or is it only possible to add modules on the own server?

does anybody has a link?

Thanks

Re: how to install event module on emoncms on windows?

Modules are basically installed by putting an additional folder in the ..../www/emoncms/modules folder of your installation, possibly restarting the server and clicking the "update&check" button on the admin page of emonCMS.

Some modules may need something else done but that is rare and discussions can usually be found if not the case.

In the case of the events module for example download the package https://github.com/emoncms/event/archive/master.zip and unpack to ..../www/emoncms/modules and rename the new folder to event so you end up with ..../www/emoncms/modules/event/files..

Unfortunately you cannot install to emoncms.org only to your own installations

After solving the main issue I now have been able to go forward with the event module. Sorry stupid question but where is the "button" for "update&check" on the emoncms server?

thanks

Hi  Juergen

Glad your making progress, the  "update&check" button can be found on the "admin" page, log-in to emoncms as usual and on the top black bar towards the right you should see "admin" click that and you should see it.

Re: how to install event module on emoncms on windows?

I'm not sure I can be of much help with a windows server, I would expect the additional modules to not work correctly until you perform the "update&check" so for the moment move the additional modules to a holding folder outside of your emoncms install and focus on "finding" the admin button.

The basic emoncms install must be missing something or broken in some way as the admin button (module) is not optional. so you should check the ...../Modules/admin folder exists and if it does, workout why it's not showing the admin button. once emoncms is working correctly and the admin page works so you can find the "update&check" button then reintroduce the additional modules.

Beyond these rather general pointers I think you will need the assistance of a more experienced WAMPer

May I ask you for your opinion?

We are developing a special sensor measuring device and we want to provide the solution to a broader customer base. so we need a reliable, high available Server. So best would be to buy this service from a Cloud provider who is hosting an maintaining the solution. But at the moment there is no solution. So we have to implement by ourselves unfortunately. What would you propose: Linux or Windows? What is more reliable, more supported (by forum) etc?
