Hello,
Unfortunately I'm total noob in controller programming and any related stuff. My only advantage is - I know linux :)
I have got full set of equipment from shop and now I'm trying to set it up. Have installed emontx in power box, and on my PI installed image from "Raspberry Pi + Harddrive + Emoncms".
My PI works great I can login in in emoncms too. I have configured Rasperry PI part, as good as I could, and then I have followed instructions and added inputs, but there starts the problem. Unfortunately I can see my inputs as inactive. It showed last activity after I have added inputs, but then was no activity, it counted minutes from last activity and after a wail shows "inactive".
Is there some way how to check, do I really receive any data from emontx?
Unfortunately I don't know anything about right network group and node ID, I have installed it as received so I suppose they should be default. (210 an 15)
Currently emontx is located about 5m away from my PI and in the way are concrete wall with steel armature inside, but typically wireless appliances works in such conditions so I suppose the radio range shouldn't be an issue.
If I change settings in Raspberry PI page and press save dose it reload settings on the fly, or I have to do something more?
Is there some log where I can see what is going on?
I can see green text "RFM12 to Pi interface script is up and running". But what dose it mean, only some daemon is running?
I'd appreciate any help to get all this stuff running ;)
Thanks, Lauris
Re: inputs inactive
If you install minicom, kill any processes using the serial port, and then use minicom you should see the traffic passing through your RFM12Pi. This will show that the data is arriving on the pi.
Unless you have changed the settings on your emontx network group 210 is OK.
Re: inputs inactive
Thanks for your response, yes minicom helped a lot.
It was radio range problem, my fault was, in emontx assembly. There is a wire which is used as antenna, to get ir more compact, I putted all the wire inside the aluminum casing, which works as radio shield :) After I change that, now it is outside the case, everything works well.
Would be nice possibility to monitor radio signal strength.
Thanks, now I have long way to go to get everything set up, as i like to:)
Re: inputs inactive
Hi, I have a similar problem with my account on the website emoncms, my inputs are shown inactive "last updated inactive", anyone know how to fix this, which is the cause of that is idle.
Thank you ..!
Re: inputs inactive
José, Have you followed the advice on the thread to "install minicom, kill any processes using the serial port, and then use minicom you should see the traffic passing through your RFM12Pi. "
To check to see if data is arriving on the Pi?
Re: inputs inactive
Hi, thanks for replying ...
I performed the procedure, but I still have the same problem ...
I must clarify that I am using an account in emoncms.org, and for sending data, I'm working with arduino and ethernet shield.
He was sending the data as normal a few days before do not what caused that are inactive now. The values of each input is normally updated (every 10 seconds), but in the "upadated" parameter remains inactive.
Any other suggestions. Thank you.
Re: inputs inactive
Imp: You can modify an emonGLCD to show the received signal strength: http://openenergymonitor.org/emon/node/2395
Re: inputs inactive
Thanks Robert Wall.
I suspect that my inputs have been blocked for some reason (perhaps because the time interval for updating the inputs every 10 seconds). Now my inputs are active but are updated every 5 minutes, I configured to make it every 20 seconds .... But with an interval of 5 minutes you can try for now, although I wish it every 20 seconds.
Any idea what's going on? Thank you.
Re: inputs inactive
I wonder it may have been caused by a load spike earlier today around 11am. The input queue was quite long for a few hours, but it is back down now.
Re: inputs inactive
I had "node inactive" and the reason for it was the incorrectly set date . just thought I leave that here for when someone stumbles on this thread .. just one more thing to check.
