emonTx Arduino Shield Kit verses emonTx 3

Hi,

I've got a couple of questions about the emonTx. I already have an Arduino Uno, so am definitely considering going for the shield.

1. The Arduino shield is currently out of stock --- will there be more produced, and what kind of time frame is there?

2. Are there advantages to using the new emonTx v3? One which I noticed from the docs, is that the new version can be powered using the AC-AC adapter (as well as just using it for voltage measurements).

Thanks!

Tom

I can't answer the stock question - Trystan & Glyn usually keep an eye on the forums but if it's urgent, email the shop.

The V3 comes pre-assembled, so you should not have any construction worries. That also makes it a little harder to customise and expand should you wish to, but on the plus side the performance at very low powers does seem to be improved. And as you say, it does not need the separate power supply. The purists will argue that the measured wave is distorted (which it is), but the amount of distortion is so small that it's impossible to detect in practical measurements.

Re: emonTx Arduino Shield Kit verses emonTx 3

Hi Robert,

Brilliant - thanks for this. That sounds good. I think I'll probably end up going for the pre-built one for now. I've got plans to add a second emonTx at my gas meter (similar to http://openenergymonitor.org/emon/node/2001 ) --- so I'll probably use the shield + existing arduino for that.

Looking forward to getting started with the kit!
