I would like to get started with OpenEnergyMonitor but looking in the shop, the FTDI programmer is out of stock with no indication as to when new ones will be available [1]. Can I use any FTDI cable like the one I can find at Farnell [2] or is the one in the OEM shop special?

Re: FTDI programmer
you can use any FTDI programmer that you want. I use an 2 dollar ebay programmer and also one from jeelibs.org. It's not specific for openenergymonitor..it's just an Arduino remember :)
Re: FTDI programmer
Thanks, that's what I was wondering. So does the FTDI programmer need to be soldered on the board and if yes do all of them have the same pin layout?
Re: FTDI programmer
You do not solder, it connects with a header plug & socket.
Re: FTDI programmer
Generally they're not keyed though, so make sure you insert it the right way around.
