Using raspberry Pi 3 as standalone unit for emoncms

Hi!
I have been googleing a lot and found out that the raspberry pi GPIOs can be configured for one wire protocol, and if the kernel is recompiled there can also be multiple busses for one wire units making things a lot easier when using many temperature meters.
Also i found out that the raspberry can indeed do some pretty good pulse counting from the GPIOs.
Is there anyone who tried to do a raspberry only emoncms datalogger? Is there any reason that this is not a very good idea?
