New Raspberry Pi 3 B launched

Yet another 50% boost in processing speed over the 800MHz Pi 2 B at 1.2GHz, wooohooo!.

And it has both wifi and bluetooth built-in, fantastic news!

That'd be a 33% increase, clock for clock. The Pi2 runs at 900 MHz.

But the RPi website does say a 50-60% performance boost in 32-bit mode, vice a Pi2.

Still, one heck of a deal at the same price as the Pi2!

Re: New Raspberry Pi 3 B launched

Does this mean we can now make a small, simple bluetooth emon TH that just sends one wire data to the Pi3?

Making one wire bluetooth adapters and bluetooth pulse counters would be very nice if the range could be about 10-15m indoor. However i guess with bluetooth thats not so easy.

(My Motorcycle intercom / Scala rider / has 1.6km range in open air. That is truly amazing, so maybe its possible after all?)

Anyone knows if this new Raspberry will fit the emonPi?

Sounds like the chances are good. From the raspberrypi.org website:

James Adams spent the second half of 2015 designing a series of prototypes, incorporating BCM2837 alongside the BCM43438 wireless “combo” chip. He was able to fit the wireless functionality into very nearly the same form-factor as the Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+ and Raspberry Pi 2 Model B; the only change is to the position of the LEDs, which have moved to the other side of the SD card socket to make room for the antenna.

Unless there's an external antenna connector on the board, the metal EmonPi case will act like a Faraday shield and wi-fi performance with the on-board antenna would likely suffer as a result.
