Hi,
Sorry, have done a search but can't find what I'm looking for...
I'm hugely interested in monitoring my home electricity consumption and (PV) generation with openenergymonitor. Thing is though that I would like to use the system without the LCD, using an android tablet instead. Is it possible to do this? The tablet would simply display an Emoncms dashboard. I am not sure though if the entire system will be crippled by not having the LCD screen. I've read somewhere that the kWh/day is calculated in the LCD and that it also logs the interior temperature. Would I be able to also have a kWh/day readout on Emoncms without havind the Emonglcd?
Thanks!

Re: NOOB - openenergymonitor without Emonglcd but with an android tablet?
You certainly can build your system without the LCD display - the only thing that you will lose is the internal room temperature.
Basically emontx is used to read consumption, and this is transmitted to emonbase (for upload to emoncms) and/or emonlcd (for display). The server software (emoncms) does the per day calculation for the web based display, and emonlcd does it own calculation for its own display.

Hi,
Thanks! I guess I could use a temperature sensor on the TX to log the interior temperature as well?

Yes, no problem.

Yes, you can do almost anything you can think of...
I have a similar plan to use an Android tablet for display in the kitchen - see my dashboard here and link to build details...
Good luck
