So I am new to OEM and been looking around and there seems to be a lot of great tools and learning points on here. I do admit I have to learn a bit of the Jargon but that should come easily once I dive a little deeper. I do have experience with Arduino's and a small bit with Raspberry Pi's and doing hobby circuits.
However onto my question, Is there a solution, system, DIY kit, way, Ect to monitor every breaker on our power box (maybe multiple power boxes). We have about 12 breakers/lines/circuits I would like to monitor. I understand typically you only really need to monitor the mains to see how much power you are pulling over all. However I really want to know how much each circuit is pulling so I can monitor our entire space's power and consumption in different areas. In all truth I would love to do even more but that will have to wait until my dream house is built. And I would like to treat this as a learning experience for the future. The hardware I have seen has been 4 monitoring posts and 6 at the most. Which is shy of what I want, and I am not sure if you can stack these systems together or not.
What I want to monitor:
- Main Power box, 10 circuits
- Sub Pannel box, 14 circuits
And I would like to see each circuit's usage and label them. And have the added total for each box's usage (done software side easy enough however maybe double checked by a sensor) I can go for monitoring a single box but would love to do both. Also I know this is all software and I could program it if necessary to have usage graphs for every area of the house and history.
If there is any solution, hacker kit, Ect out there I would be very happy to know about it or a few links in the right direction. I am continuing to look around and have already looked into the following places;
- Here obviously
- The energy detective
- Some Google Fu
Thanks
Re: Full Breaker Monitoring for 12 Breakers
sadly the EmonTx only monitors 4 at a time. This site
http://boredomprojects.net/index.php/projects/home-energy-monitor
has done 12 by creating his own EmonTX - its based on an Ardunio Due so its got 12 bit rather than 10bit A/D !
The labeling of the results is handled in EmonCMS so you know how much power is using.
Have a look on his site its far better explained.
Re: Full Breaker Monitoring for 12 Breakers
Thanks a lot. That looks like a good solution for me. I am looking deeper into it but that project looks like what I want to do. I already have 3 Ardunio Due and a Raspberry Pi in my collection. Thanks again. But I will keep looking around just to see what else is out there.
